WHAT THE EXAMINER EXPECTS ON THE TEST

Your examiner will want to see that you can:
1. Demonstrate good control of the vehicle throughout the test
2. Foot control, hand control and other control

REMEMBER: YOU NEED TO BE AWARE ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES FOR NOT USING THE CONTROL CORRECTLY.

NOTE:
1. DON`T LOOK AT THE GEAR LEVELWHILE DRIVING.
2. DON`T COAST WITH THE GEAR LEVEL IN NEUTRAL OR THE CLUTCH PEDAL DOWN.

Using the mirrors has to be part of a basic driving routine; you must regularly check all your mirrors and act safely on what you see. Always check your mirrors before:
1. Moving off
2. Signaling
3. Turning left or right
4. Changing lanes or overtaking
5. Opening your car door

WHAT EXAMINER EXPECTS ON TEST.
Your examiner will see if you make use of all your mirrors and how you act on what you see.

REMEMBER: ALWAYS CHECK YOUR INTERIOR MIRROR FIRST AND THEN EXTERIOR MIRRORS.

NOTE: MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF A CONVEX MIRROR.

You need to understand and respond safely to signal given by other vehicles and you need to give clear signal to other road users, in order to make them aware of your intention.

The examiner will expect well timed signals and safe responses to signals from others.

REMEMBER: YOU MUST KNOW ALL HAND SIGNALS AND SIGNALS GIVEN BY POLICE CONSTABLE ON TRAFFIC.

NOTE: MAKE SURE TO CANCEL YOUR SIGNAL AFTER YOU HAVE CARRIED OUT A MANOEUVRE.

Safe driving is based on anticipation and planning, it is called mind driving. You should plan your driving, drive your plan, it is a secured way to reach your destination safely.

Your examiner will see to it if you can drive confidently in all types of situations and traffic conditions. You will need to show awareness of hazards and respond safely within good time.

REMEMBER: YOU WILL NEED TO PLAN AHEAD TO DEAL WITH STATIC AND MOVING HAZARDS SAFELY.

Speed varies according to the road conditions, traffic condition and weather condition. Always drive within the speed limit. For a driving test in Mauritius don`t drive beyond 40 km/h and not in the fourth gear.

Your examiner will watch how you control your speed in different situations and how you change gear.

REMEMBER: CHANGING OF GEAR SHOULD BE DONE SMOOTHLY .TRY NOT TO DRIVE LONG DISTANCE ON THE FIRST GEAR.

NOTE: DON`T APPROACH JUNCTIONS TOO FAST OR TOO SLOWLY, DRIVE AT REASONABLE SPEED. DON`T HOLD BACK OTHER VEHICLES UNNECESSARILY WHEN IT’S SAFE TO PROCEED.

When you are driving there will be other traffic on the road. You must be able to deal safely when crossing and overtaking these vehicles.

REMEMBER: IF YOU HAVE TO OVERTAKE, START PLANNING WELL IN ADVANCE SO THAT YOU CAN GET A BETTER VIEW OF THE ROAD AHEAD

NOTE: KEEP APPROPRIATE FOLLOWING DISTANCE FROM THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF YOU AND WHILE STOPPING BEHIND A VEHICLE ESTIMATE 3 METERS TO STOP.

A junction is a point where two or more roads meet. There are different types of junctions and the risk of accidents to occur at these junctions are inevitable. Treat all junctions with great care before you emerge no matter how easy they look.

Your examiner will see how you approach a control and uncontrolled junction. How you deal when the traffic lights are off at a junction.

REMEMBER: STOP COMPLETELY AT THE STOP LINE

NOTE: MAKE SURE YOUKNOW THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN STOP LINE AND GIVE WAY LINE.

Pedestrian crossing is an extension of the footway. Pedestrians is safe only if drives follow the rules of the road.

The examiner will see what precautions you take when approaching a pedestrian crossing, even if there none crossing the road.

REMEMBER: DON`T TRY TO HURRY PEDESTRIANS WHO ARE CROSSING BY REVIVING YOUR ENGINE (IN CREOLE: PA ACCELERER), SOUNDING YOUR HORN OR WAVING YOUR HAND FOR THEM TO WALK QUICKLY.
